Launching a New Phase of Traditional Medicine Cooperation
The Asia Pacific School of Business and Tsinghua University (Shenzhen) Research Institute reached a preliminary consensus
On April 27, 2025, against the backdrop of the national strategy to revitalize traditional medicine and the accelerated medical collaborative innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Professor Che Yanping, Executive Dean of the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine of The Asia Pacific School of Business, led a delegation to visit the Tsinghua University (Shenzhen) Biomanufacturing and Living Body Printing Research and Development Center under the Shenzhen Research Institute of Tsinghua University. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on the innovative development of traditional medicine and reached an initial cooperation consensus. At the same time, they also had a forward-looking exchange on the preparation and planning for the establishment of the Affiliated (Hanoi) Hospital of the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine of The Asia Pacific School of Business, outlining a new blueprint for the international development of traditional medicine.
During the visit, Professor Che Yanping, accompanied by Lin Wanli, Secretary General of the School Council, conveyed the strategic expectations to the research and development center of Tsinghua University on behalf of Dr. Jianyin Yiyan, the rotating Chairman of the School Council. Combining with the original intention of "inheriting the essence and maintaining integrity while innovating" of the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine, Professor Che Yanping elaborated on the significance of deepening interdisciplinary cooperation in promoting the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine. She also emphasized the crucial value of jointly establishing the Affiliated (Hanoi) Hospital in expanding the international influence of traditional medicine and deepening international medical cooperation.
Since its establishment, the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine of The Asia Pacific School of Business has always been committed to the mission of "constructing a modern research system for traditional medicine and cultivating high-end talents in traditional Chinese medicine who can integrate ancient and modern knowledge". It has actively broken down disciplinary barriers and promoted the deep integration of traditional medicine with modern medicine and quantum medicine. Professor Che Yanping stated, "The Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine adheres to the education and training concept of 'rooted in tradition and facing the future'. We hope to explore new paths for theoretical innovation and technological breakthroughs in traditional medicine through interdisciplinary research. The achievement of this initial consensus during the visit, together with the proposal to establish the Affiliated (Hanoi) Hospital in Vietnam, will further expand the development boundaries of traditional medicine."
The Shenzhen Research Institute of Tsinghua University was jointly established by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and Tsinghua University in December 1996 and has formed six functional modules, including concept verification, pilot engineering, talent support, science and technology finance, incubation services, and overseas cooperation. Its subordinate Tsinghua University (Shenzhen) Biomanufacturing and Living Body Printing Research and Development Center, established in 2021, takes bio-3D printing as the main line, attaches importance to interdisciplinary and medical-engineering cooperation, and is committed to promoting the deep integration of technologies such as biology, machinery, materials, and artificial intelligence. The center's team consists of experts from the "Overseas High-level Talents Program", doctors from Tsinghua University, doctors from renowned overseas universities, and other domestic and international experts in the field. Since 2001, it has been engaged in the research and transformation of bio-3D printing technology and holds the world's first cell printing patent, boasting rich experience in technology transformation and industrialization.
The two sides focused on the interdisciplinary research between the acupoint injection therapy of traditional Chinese medicine and life sciences and initially reached an intention to establish the "Interdisciplinary Research Special Project on Acupoint Injection of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Life Sciences". In the future, this special project will rely on the cutting-edge experimental platforms and profound academic accumulation of the research and development center of Tsinghua University to systematically conduct research on frontier topics such as the mechanism of drug delivery at acupoints and the biological basis of meridians. The initial idea of jointly establishing the Affiliated (Hanoi) Hospital of the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine of The Asia Pacific School of Business in Vietnam also provides a potential practical space for the clinical transformation and international promotion of the research results of this special project.
In terms of talent cultivation, the two sides initially planned to construct an integrated "production, education, research, and application" cultivation system around the positioning of the graduate school to "cultivate composite talents in traditional Chinese medicine". The curriculum will integrate interdisciplinary modules such as classical theories of traditional Chinese medicine, biomanufacturing technology, and the research and development of intelligent medical devices. In the practical session, it is planned to rely on the bio-3D printing laboratory and living tissue analysis platform of the research and development center of Tsinghua University to carry out visual research on acupoint injection and the development of new drug carriers. At the same time, a clinical transformation base will be established with the help of Longshou Kanghua Health Industry Group, an affiliated member of The Asia Pacific School of Business, to ensure the close connection between academic research and clinical application.
"The achievement of this initial consensus during the visit, together with the proposal to establish the Affiliated (Hanoi) Hospital in Vietnam, is an important step for the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine to fulfill its mission," emphasized Professor Che Yanping. "Dr. Jianyin Yiyan particularly pointed out that by deconstructing the mechanism of acupoint injection with cutting-edge life science technologies, not only can modern scientific evidence be provided for traditional therapies, promoting the transformation of traditional Chinese medicine from empirical medicine to evidence-based medicine, but also through the establishment of the affiliated hospital in Vietnam, traditional Chinese medicine services can be expanded internationally, enhancing the global influence of traditional Chinese medicine." It is reported that if the cooperation proceeds smoothly, it is expected to deliver 30-50 composite talents with both a solid foundation in traditional medicine and modern life science literacy to Hong Kong every year, helping to improve the diagnosis and treatment level of traditional Chinese medicine in Hong Kong, optimizing the allocation of medical resources in the Greater Bay Area, and creating a new situation of medical collaborative innovation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
With the continuous advancement of the "Internationalization of Traditional Medicine", the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine of The Asia Pacific School of Business and the Shenzhen Research Institute of Tsinghua University will further deepen their exchanges, refine their cooperation plans, and accelerate the feasibility study for jointly establishing the Affiliated (Hanoi) Hospital of the Joint Graduate School of Traditional Medicine of The Asia Pacific School of Business. They are committed to building an internationally influential innovative research and clinical service platform for traditional medicine, injecting strong impetus into the inheritance and development of traditional medicine, and practicing the school-running purpose of "Promoting Traditional Medicine and Serving Human Health".
